Mariela Burket was born and raised in Lima, Peru. She studied at UNIFE, where she received a bachelor's degree in Education and her Professional Title of Licentiate in Special Education. She completed a Post Graduate International Teaching course in Havana, Cuba. Mariela likes being a part of the children’s lives as they go through their early learning period. She enjoys spending time with her daughters and visiting her relatives and friends in Florida and Peru.

Feiji (Helen) Chen, L4 & L5 Chinese Teacher

Ms. Chen has been an English teacher in China for seven years, where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in International Trade. She then acquired her Montessori preschool teacher credential in the U.S. She has been working in Motessori preschool for four years. Ms. Chen also created and built the first Chinese Immersion Program in a preschool. She believes that every child has the ability to learn if given the opportunity, and ensures that she gives each child her best. In her spare time she enjoys traveling and spending time with her kids.

Steven Chow, P.E. Teacher, Character Builder Teacher & Elective Teacher
Mr. Chow attended California State University in both Los Angeles and Long Beach. He has worked much of his career as a Graphic Designer. Mr. Chow has also held numerous positions, such as Teacher's Aide, English Conversation instructor, and Substitute Teacher in the Santa Ana and Tustin School Districts. Currently, he is the Education Center Director at the Boys and Girls Club in Tustin. Mr. Chow loves to teach about the importance of exercise and character building. Some of his hobbies are music, comic books and yard sales.

Gloria Gallardo, L20, L30, & L40 English & History Teacher
Gloria Gallardo graduated from the University of California Los Angeles with a major in English with highest honors and a minor in Chicana/o Studies. Her passion for education and belief in the potential of all students has led her down the pathway of elementary education in hopes of nourishing a profound love of learning in her students. Throughout her years at UCLA, Ms. Gallardo was involved in a variety of human rights and education organizations and committed countless hours to English tutoring. In her free time, Ms. Gallardo loves to read and spend time with her family.
Colleen Kerrigan-Cox, L50 & L60 English & History Teacher
Colleen Kerrigan-Cox has taught English literature, grammar, and writing to high school students and to international students studying in the Intensive English Program at the University of California Irvine Extension. Mrs. Cox completed a double major at Stanford University, receiving her Bachelor’s degree with distinction in English and Human Biology. She also holds a Master’s degree in Education from Stanford University and a California Secondary Teaching Credential. As the mother of three elementary age children, Mrs. Cox is keenly interested in early childhood and elementary education. She loves reading, cooking, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.

Minru (Judy) Liu, L40, L50, & L60 Math
Ms. Liu, is a native of Beijing, China. She has a Bachelor of Science degree and Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and has a certificate for teaching Chinese as a second language. After working as a software engineer for eighteen years, Ms. Liu transitioned to teaching. She enjoys working with students of all ages, but finds teaching young students especially rewarding. In addition to math and science, Ms. Liu is firm believer in the importance of multi-lingual education.
Theresa McIntire, L40, L50 & L60 Science Teacher
Ms. McIntire earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a PhD degree in biophysical chemistry from the University of California, Irvine.  Her many years of teaching experience has involved all levels of general chemistry at local community colleges and UCI. Ms. McIntire has also been involved in numerous science projects at UCI, including studies of Alzheimer's protein structure, global climate change, atmospheric chemistry, and air pollution.  Ms. McIntire is excited for this teaching opportunity to grow and learn with her students, hopefully inspiring students to embrace the importance of science .

Carrie Mizera, Executive Director
Carrie Mizera brings a blend of business acumen and a passion for education excellence to the Renascence School International Orange County. She was educated in the US and China and received a Bachelor of Science degree from the U.C., Irvine. In addition to working in the investment management field, she is the past President of the Orange County Chinese American Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Mizera believes learning is fun and is passionate about providing Orange County children with an education option that combines advanced academic and foreign language learning.
Thomas Mizera, Director of Admissions, Development Officer
Thomas Mizera has a background in business, finance and fundraising. He has degrees from the Talbot School of Theology and Biola University. Before joining Renascence School International Orange County, he served as Executive Vice President of China Source, a non-profit company that assists organizations with work in China. Mr. Mizera has experience teaching advanced students as well as students needing remediation. Mr. Mizera believes that schools that offer advanced academics and an international perspective are the wave of the future.

Yu (Raymond) Pang, L30, L40, L50 & L60 Chinese
Mr. Pang received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language and Literature from Shandong University, one of the top universities in China. He has been in business with Europe for two decades, and received his Post Graduate degree in Business Management from the University of Foreign Economy and Trade in Beijing. After transferring to the teaching field, he received certification to be a Senior Grade Chinese Language Teacher from IPA in Utah. Mr. Pang loves to teach the Chinese language and culture and enjoys Chinese Taichi martial arts and calligraphy.

Ms. Rayburn brings over a decade of academic leadership and classroom experience to her role at RSI. Throughout her time working in education, Elizabeth has developed a passion for the elementary age group especially those with special needs. She has worked alongside leading educators in her role as Teaching Assistant for a college Human Anatomy lab as well as for a Biological Psychology course. Her select achievements include graduating from California State University Fullerton with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. At RSI, she is one of the first points of contact for prospective families.

Sarah Reed L5 & L10 English Teacher, Enrichment Coordinator
Sarah Reed graduated from Vanguard University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Her passion and love for children has led her to obtain certified training, allowing her to work with children suffering from deep emotional trauma. Over the years she has spent time in Mozambique and Uganda, working at schools, orphanages, shelters, and churches. Mrs. Reed has experience with children of all ages and backgrounds. She believes in stopping for the "one" and empowering a generation to live in their full potential.

Maria Sanz, a native of Spain, has a bachelor´s degree in Childhood and Elementary Education from the University Francisco de Vitoria in Madrid. Her emphasis is in Special Education and she has a Master´s Degree in Journalism. She has been working in Kinder and elementary classrooms as a Spanish and Spanish as a Second Language teacher and enjoys being part of the children´s lives as they learn and grow. Ms. Sanz believes in trying to make learning fun and meaningful for her students. In her free time she loves to travel.

Ms. Yani Tan received her master's degree in teaching from the University of Southern California. Yani sees herself as an agent of change in the education field. She believes that everyone can afford to dream, and that good education helps dreams come true. Her goal is to brighten the light that shines from within her students, and guide them to reach their fullest potential. Ms. Tan's biggest pleasure as a teacher, is to watch the students grow and develop.

Sophia Torjesen has a bachelor's degree in Chemistry and has been in the field of education for more than a decade. While working as an early childhood instructor and education manager in China for almost a decade, she discovered her passion was working with very young children. As a result, Ms. Torjesen went back to school and studied early childhood theories and principles as well as administration of early childhood programs. Sophia is fluent in five different languages and enjoys a variety of sports and hobbies such as rock climbing, swimming, quilting, knitting, singing, cooking, and baking.

Ms. Xiong earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Chinese Literature and Education from Sichuan Normal University in China. She pursued her post bachelor study in California State University Long Beach where she received California Single Subject Teaching Credential in Chinese. Ms. Xiong enjoys teaching Chinese to the students of all different levels and backgrounds. And years of teaching experiences have developed in her love to help students find their strength and embrace their potential.
