Kim Bui, L5 English Teacher, Enrichment Instructor
Kim Bui graduated from California State University Fullerton with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Child Development and a minor in Human Services. She has worked in elementary, middle and high school classrooms. She loves sharing her passion for learning with young students and strives to make the learning experience fun and meaningful. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, and spending time with family and friends.
Mariela Burket, L4 & L5 Spanish Teacher
Mariela Burket was born and raised in Lima, Peru. She studied at UNIFE, where she received her Degree of Bachelors of Education and her Professional Title of Licentiate in Special Education. She completed a Post Graduate International Teaching course in Havana, Cuba. Mariela likes being a part of the children’s lives as they go through their early learning period. She enjoys spending time with her daughters and visiting her relatives and friends in Florida and Peru.

Helen Chan, Executive Assistant, Enrichment Instructor

Ms. Chan has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Child and Adolescent Studies from California State University, Fullerton. She has experience working in childcare, preschool and elementary school settings. She also has worked with at-risk teens. Ms. Chan believes a diverse learning environment helps children grow socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively. In her free time, she blogs, works on craft projects, serves as a makeup artist and experiments with novel foods.

TeChun Chao, L20 & L30 Math & Science Teacher
Ms. Chao attended the Fujen Catholic University in Taipei where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism. Ms. Chao then moved to the United States to study at Boston University where she received a Master of Arts degree in Public Relations. Before joining the Renascence School International team, she shared her love of the Chinese language and culture with students in after-school, Chinese heritage and special needs programs.

Erik Eppel, L10, L20, L30, L40 & L90 English & History Teacher
Mr. Eppel holds two degrees in Comparative Literature: a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California at Davis and a Master of Arts from the University of California at Santa Barbara. His love for teaching young children sparked while working as an ESL instructor in Madrid, Spain. Mr. Eppel has been a Teacher’s Assistant for college lecture courses and an Italian tutor. His experience living in several European countries has shown him the strength of a linguistically diverse education. Mr. Eppel enjoys reading, cooking, running, cycling, and has recently taken up rock climbing.
Jillian Hiemstra, Enrichment Coordinator
Mrs. Hiemstra has an Associate of Arts Degree in Administration of Justice from Cerritos College. Before joining the Renascence School International team, she worked as a preschool teacher, sport camp coach, and youth camp counselor. In addition, she studied and worked in Japan, South Korea, and China. In her free time, she works in a part-time business, serves as a youth mentor, and assists in short-term disaster relief efforts.

Anna Ho, Assistant Preschool Director, Enrichment Instructor
Anna Ho graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and minor in Applied Developmental Psychology from the University of California at Los Angeles, where she trained at the Infant Development Program. Before joining the Renascence School International team, she was an elementary and junior high school educator for five years in Japan. She is also Director of Operations of an organization that promotes volunteering at orphanages throughout Japan. Educating and advocating for children is a passion that Ms. Ho has made her life's work.
Zhong Lin, L5 Chinese & Math Teacher, L10 Math & Science Teacher
Ms. Lin has a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Zhongshan University, one of the top universities in China. Before she began her teaching career, she worked for ten years in accounting and finance fields. She thoroughly enjoys teaching Chinese to non-native speakers and had a passion for working with children. In addition to teaching Chinese, she enjoys Chinese folk dancing and shares her love of this type of dancing with her students.

Minru Liu, L30 Math & Science Teacher
Ms. Liu, is a native of Beijing, China. She has a Bachelor of Science degree and Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and has a certificate for teaching Chinese as a second language. After working as a software engineer for eighteen years, Ms. Liu transitioned to teaching. She enjoys working with students of all ages, but finds teaching young students especially rewarding. In addition to math and science, Ms. Liu is firm believer in the importance of multi-lingual education.
Xinghan Ma, L40 & L90 Math & Science Teacher
Ms. Ma received a Master's degree in Thermal Engineering from prestigious Tsinghua University in China before moving to Canada to obtain a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering. She then moved to the United States where she earned a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering from Oakland University. Ms. Ma has expereince in the classroom teaching undergraduate courses in engineering as well as many hours tutoring students in Math to help them to reach their full potential.Her favorite quote on education is from Soctates, "Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel."Ms. Ma's favorite pastimes include reading and listening to classical music.

Carrie Mizera, Executive Director
Carrie Mizera brings a blend of business acumen and a passion for education excellence to the Renascence School International Orange County. She was educated in the US and China and received a Bachelor of Science degree from the U.C., Irvine. In addition to working in the investment management field, she is the past President of the Orange County Chinese American Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Mizera believes learning is fun and is passionate about providing Orange County children with an education option that combines advanced academic and foreign language learning.
Thomas Mizera, Director of Admissions, Development Officer
Thomas Mizera has a background in business, finance and fundraising. He has degrees from the Talbot School of Theology and Biola University. Before joining Renascence School International Orange County, he served as Executive Vice President of China Source, a non-profit company that assists organizations with work in China. Mr. Mizera has experience teaching advanced students as well as students needing remediation. Mr. Mizera believes that schools that offer advanced academics and an international perspective are the wave of the future.

Milton Neira, L4, Spanish Teacher, P.E. Teacher
Mr. Neira was born in Mexico City and studied there until he was in middle school. He has traveled to many parts of Latin America, Asia, Africa and Europe and is interested in science, literature and art. Mr. Neira received a Bachelor of Arts degree from U.C., Santa Cruz and is currently working on Master of Arts degree in Education. In addition, Mr. Neira is a certified bilingual American Red Cross Health and Safety Instructor and a co-founder of Puma’s Soccer Youth Academy.
Heather Nguyen, Preschool Director, L4 English Teacher
Ms. Nguyen has a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Las Vegas. She has worked as an ESL and has experience in preschool, kindergarten and first grade classrooms. She currently holds a State of California Multiple Subject Credential and a State of Nevada Early Childhood Credential. In addition, she has over 10 years of experience as a paralegal. Ms. Nguyen believes that all children deserve a challenging but exciting learning experience.

Yan Xiong, L4 & L10 Chinese Teacher
Ms. Xiong earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Chinese Literature and Education from Sichuan Normal University in China. She pursued her post bachelor study in California State University Long Beach where she received California Single Subject Teaching Credential in Chinese. Ms. Xiong enjoys teaching Chinese to the students of all different levels and backgrounds. And years of teaching experiences have developed in her love to help students find their strength and embrace their potential.
Florey "Fang" Yuan, L4 & L10 Chinese Aide
Ms. Yuan has received a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Business Trade from Beijing Forestry University. Upon her college graduation, she worked as a television program editor at China Central Television. Ms. Yuan gained experience teaching Chinese, Chinese arts and culture to the Foreign Service and Embassy Diplomat families in Beijing. Ms. Yuan went on and received a Post Graduate Degree in Integrated Marketing from Hong Kong University. After moving to the States with her family, she attended and received her second Bachelor of Arts Degree in Accounting from California State University, Fullerton. She is currently attending school for early childhood education in Saddleback College and is eager to pursue a passion for teaching children.

Silvia Zamora, L10, L20, L30 & L80 Spanish Teacher
Ms. Zamora, a native of Bolivia, has a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and pharmacy from the University Mayor de San Simon in Bolivia. She has her master’s degree in teaching Spanish as a second language from the Universidad de Salamanca in Spain. After working in the healthcare field for five years in Bolivia, Ms. Zamora moved to Saint Maarten where she worked as a Spanish teacher for students from preschool age through the university level. She has a fun, Latin American teaching style that is sure to be popular with the Renascence School International students.
Rong Zhang, L10, L20, L30, L40 & L90 Chinese Teacher
Rong Zhang is a native of Xi’an China. She has a teaching degree from Xianyang Normal University and experience teaching Westerners about China and the Chinese culture. In addition to teaching, Ms. Zhang has experience in the travel industry. Ms. Zhang taught at the Renascence School International Panama City Campus and received a Teaching Excellent Designation for her work there. In addition to Chinese language arts, Ms. Zhang also enjoys math, science, travel and riding her bicycle.
