Patricia Perkins - Panama City Renaissance School teaches Spanish
Mariela Burket, L4 & L5 Spanish Teacher
Mariela Burket was born and raised in Lima, Peru. She studied at UNIFE, where she received a bachelor's degree in Education and her Professional Title of Licentiate in Special Education. She completed a Post Graduate International Teaching course in Havana, Cuba. Mariela likes being a part of the children’s lives as they go through their early learning period. She enjoys spending time with her daughters and visiting her relatives and friends in Florida and Peru.
TeChun Chao, L20 Math & Science Teacher & L30 Math Teacher
Ms. Chao attended the Fujen Catholic University in Taipei where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism. Ms. Chao then moved to the United States to study at Boston University where she received a Master of Arts degree in Public Relations. Before joining the Renascence School International team, she shared her love of the Chinese language and culture with students in after-school, Chinese heritage and special needs programs.

Cheryl Chen, Teacher's Aide/Enrichment Instructor

Ms. Chen has a Bachelor of Art Design degree from Shanghai Maritime University in China. She has experience teaching kids about Shakespeare drama and public speaking. In addition to teaching, Ms. Chen is active as a volunteer in her community, working with a non-profit organization related to a child creativity program and child services. At the same time, Cheryl is currently volunteering at the Orange County Museum of Arts. Ms. Chen plans to pursue her Master's degree in Child Art Education.

Helen Chen, L4 & L5 Chinese Teacher
Ms. Chen has been an English teacher in China for seven years, where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in International Trade. She then acquired her Montessori preschool teacher credential in the U.S. She has been working in Motessori preschool for four years. Ms. Chen also created and built the first Chinese Immersion Program in a preschool. She believes that every child has the ability to learn if given the opportunity, and ensures that she gives each child her best. In her spare time she enjoys traveling and spending time with her kids.

Steven Chow, P.E. Teacher
Mr. Chow attended California State University in both Los Angeles and Long Beach. He has worked much of his career as a Graphic Designer. Mr. Chow has also held numerous positions, such as Teacher's Aide, English Conversation instructor, and Substitute Teacher in the Santa Ana and Tustin School Districts. Currently, he is the Education Center Director at the Boys and Girls Club in Tustin. Mr. Chow loves to teach about the importance of exercise and character building. Some of his hobbies are music, comic books and yard sales.
Courtney Gonzales, Preschool Director
Courtney Gonzales has a Bachelor of Science degree from California State University, Fullerton in Child Development. She also has a child development site supervisor permit licensed through the state of California commission on teacher credentialing. Courtney has worked for years in the Fullerton Unified School District system and as a lead preschool teacher. She believes all children should be celebrated and seen as important. In her free time she enjoys the creative arts, such as painting, dancing, drawing and singing.

Tao Guo, L30 Science Teacher, L30 & L40 Math & Science Teacher
Mr. Guo grew up in Shanghai and Beijing and has a long history of educators in his family. He graduated from Peking University with a degree in Biological Sciences. After moving to the U.S., Mr. Guo worked several years in genetics research before switching to the field of business administration. With one child in college and another in high school, Mr. Guo is keenly aware of the shortcomings of the public education system in U.S., and is passionate about helping children compete in the global marketplace. Mr. Guo enjoys science, history, and classic country music that tells a story.
Jillian Hiemstra, Executive Assistant, Enrichment Coordinator
Mrs. Hiemstra has an Associate of Arts Degree in Administration of Justice from Cerritos College. Before joining the Renascence School International team, she worked as a preschool teacher, sport camp coach, and youth camp counselor. In addition, she studied and worked in Japan, South Korea, and China. In her free time, she works in a part-time business, serves as a youth mentor, and assists in short-term disaster relief efforts.

Alexandra Hulett, L4, L5 & L10 English Teacher, Assistant Preschool Director
Alexandra Hulett is a California native with a love of language arts and linguistics. She studied Early Childhood Education at Santa Monica College and Anthropology at Cal State Long Beach, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree. She loves working with young children and has several years of experience as an educator both domestically and abroad. Ms. Hulett believes the social and economic climate of the modern world requires us to teach our children to be culturally aware, global citizens.
Olivia Hulett, L10 English Teacher, L20, L30 & L40 English/HistoryTeacher
Olivia Hulett graduated from the University of California, Irvine with a B.A. in Comparative Literature, and is currently pursuing a master's degree in English at National University. Her past experience in education includes working with children with special needs and learning disabilities as well as volunteering through her church as a Vacation Bible School teacher. Ms. Hulett is passionate about teaching and strives to challenge and engage each student in her classroom. In her spare time, Ms. Hulett enjoys reading, playing piano, and spending time with her family and her dog.

Zhong Lin, L10 Chinese Teacher, L10 Math & Science Teacher
Ms. Lin has a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Zhongshan University, one of the top universities in China. Before she began her teaching career, she worked for ten years in accounting and finance fields. She thoroughly enjoys teaching Chinese to non-native speakers and had a passion for working with children. In addition to teaching Chinese, she enjoys Chinese folk dancing and shares her love of this type of dancing with her students.
Carrie Mizera, Executive Director
Carrie Mizera brings a blend of business acumen and a passion for education excellence to the Renascence School International Orange County. She was educated in the US and China and received a Bachelor of Science degree from the U.C., Irvine. In addition to working in the investment management field, she is the past President of the Orange County Chinese American Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Mizera believes learning is fun and is passionate about providing Orange County children with an education option that combines advanced academic and foreign language learning.

Thomas Mizera, Director of Admissions, Development Officer
Thomas Mizera has a background in business, finance and fundraising. He has degrees from the Talbot School of Theology and Biola University. Before joining Renascence School International Orange County, he served as Executive Vice President of China Source, a non-profit company that assists organizations with work in China. Mr. Mizera has experience teaching advanced students as well as students needing remediation. Mr. Mizera believes that schools that offer advanced academics and an international perspective are the wave of the future.

Maria Sanz, a native of Spain, has a bachelor´s degree in Childhood and Elementary Education from the University Francisco de Vitoria in Madrid. Her emphasis is in Special Education and she has a Master´s Degree in Journalism. She has been working in Kinder and elementary classrooms as a Spanish and Spanish as a Second Language teacher and enjoys being part of the children´s lives as they learn and grow. Ms. Sanz believes in trying to make learning fun and meaningful for her students. In her free time she loves to travel.

Yan Xiong, L5 Chinese & Math Teacher & L10 Chinese, Math & ScienceTeacher
Ms. Xiong earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Chinese Literature and Education from Sichuan Normal University in China. She pursued her post bachelor study in California State University Long Beach where she received California Single Subject Teaching Credential in Chinese. Ms. Xiong enjoys teaching Chinese to the students of all different levels and backgrounds. And years of teaching experiences have developed in her love to help students find their strength and embrace their potential.
Cherry Zhang, L20, L30 & L40 Chinese Teacher
Ms. Zhang was born in Shanghai, China and earned her bachelor’s degree in Education Technology from Shanghai Normal University. Ms. Zhang has more than seven years of experience teaching software application in Shanghai Information Technology School. Ms. Zhang moved to Singapore where she worked as a personal assistant and a Chinese tutor.  Since moving to California, Ms. Zhang spent one year volunteering at her son’s class, observing the education style here. She is excited to work with your students and teach them about the Chinese language and culture.
