Dia De Los Muertos 2014

Outside the Box – Christy Johnson cover

On Costume Day, RSIOC students dressed up as their favorite characters and came to school ready to have some fun! Fun was had, and amidst the good time, RSIOC students were introduced to a Latin holiday Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead). The students learned that this is not a time to fear but a time of remembrance for the generations before us and for those who are no longer with us.

There are 4 things that the Latin culture uses to remember their loved ones: Foto (photo), Vela (candle), Flor (flower) and Altar (altar). The C6, C7 and C8 students wrote in both English and Spanish, a memory about a loved one, and created an altar with all the above elements.

RSIOC would like to give a special thank you to Mr. Gallegos, Sra. Maria Sanz and Ms. Olivia Hulett for working with the students and teaching them about this special cultural event.
