Child Life Specialist teaches children about illness and compassion
Outside the Box – Christy Johnson
The Renascence School International in Orange County, brought in a Child Life Specialist on Monday to teach the children about an illness that has touched the lives of one of the families in their school. The L10, C6 and C7 classes were invited to a presentation that included such topics as Lupus, chemotherapy, compassion and the difference between sympathy and empathy. Using a life-size doll to showcase different parts of the body, the presentation gave the students insight into the human body and human health. The students were very engaged throughout the presentation and had lots of questions. Afterwards, they made a card to thank the speaker for educating them on this very important topic.
