Outside the Box – Christy Johnson

Happy Chinese New Year 2017 – The Year of the Rooster! The New Year, also known as Spring Festival, begins on January 28 and ends the day of the Lantern Festival on February 15. The Renascence School International has enjoyed celebrating this important Chinese holiday with students. RSI families kicked off the lunar new year with a Chinese dinner sponsored by the Parent Teacher Organization. There were beautiful centerpieces and decor in the Chinese New Year theme. The silent auction had some very exciting items donated by RSI families. Included were a trip to Park City, Utah, dental services, restaurant certificates and much more. The RSI Chinese dance team performed “The Red Lantern” and “Dances of the Youth” and there was also a performance by the Chinese Dragon Dancers.

Last Friday students enjoyed some hands-on fun making Chinese dumplings! The preschool students made dumplings from scratch and everyone on campus enjoyed tasting the different types of dumplings. Thank you to the parents who made this day a special cultural experience for the students!
